Measuring Success

How should leaders/pastors/elders/shepherds measure success? Evangelists would probably measure it by the people that take that first step of belief and the angels are rejoicing, we know that. Would all of the different roles that leaders play, measure it differently? Or should we not even have a measure of success and only go by of our level of obedience? Or both? What do you think?

I believe any success to be had would be God's anyway...so I say it's all about obedience. Paul says: "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase." I think that makes it clear to me that no matter what I do, it's planting or watering, and only God can bring the increase....therefore, only God can claim the "success". hmmm...maybe I am wrong...but that's what I'm going with.... :0)

You know what, I think I worded this whole post wrong. :) Yes, I totally agree, the success is always God's but if we are living our lives in a way that pleases Him that is success for us right?

I guess what I am trying to say is, "What is our goal?" to have more people at the Church/Bible study? To keep the people we have? For the people to be transformed? For the people to develop relationships with each other? For their personal lives to change? And on and on....

I think Obedience for sure.
And I do believe all those listed, transformation, relationship, etc are all the goal. That's why we are all the body with all different functions. Some will feel the call to witness to the lost, some will feel the call to disciple, some will feel the call to use their hospitality gift to welcome a stranger that is struggling to fit in. As long as we're all working towards the goal of obedience and glorifying only our Father, then to me that' the goal.
